SUPPORTING A TRUE BOYS' HIGHER IN NEED

The Paarl Boys’ Academy (PBA) is a non-profit, section 21 company that was founded in February 2005 to offer learners who qualify and want to attend Paarl Boys’ High, financial assistance.

This Old Boys’ Union (OBU) initiative resulted from talented boys whose parents can not afford to pay the full school or hostel fee.

Boys who earnestly want to attend Paarl Boys’ High but need financial aid to do so, need to apply at the PBA. Talent and achievement are not the only criteria. Applicants are approved and selected after satisfying a number of conditions. Successful candidates must fit in with the ethos, culture and traditions of the school.

In 1911 a committee was appointed to find a suitable school song for Boys’ High. They wisely decided to have a competition with 31 October 1912 as the closing date for entries. Prize money of one guinea (R2,10) was offered for the words and music respectively of the song accepted by the committee. When the closing date arrived, no acceptable entry had been received.
